8 Easy Steps to Perfectly Season Your Traditional Attukal

Before using your Attukal for daily tasks, it requires a simple preparation process called seasoning. This step smooths out the stone, removing any accumulated dust and excess particles, and prepares it for efficient grinding. In this blog, we will guide you through the easy steps to season your Attukal.

Why Is Seasoning an Attukal Important?

Seasoning is a crucial step in preparing your Attukal for effective and efficient use. Here's why:

  • Prevents stone dust
  • Prepares a clean surface for grinding
  • Enhances grinding efficiency
  • Extends the lifespan of your Attukal

Let's dive into the seasoning steps to prepare your Attukal for optimal performance.

Here Are the 8 Simple Step-By-Step Seasoning Process:

STEP 1: Wash and scrub with coconut fiber

First, wash the Attukal with water to remove any residue from its surface. Then, use coconut fiber to scrub the Attukal, which effectively cleans and maintains its surface without causing any damage.

STEP 2:Use mat underneath the Attukal

Place the Attukal on a mat to prevent it from shaking or moving around during the grinding process. This will help keep the Attukal stable and ensure a smoother operation.

STEP 3:Attach the non-slip Scratch pad

Before attaching the non-slip scratch pad to your attukal, first wipe the bottom with a dry cloth to clean it. Then, peel off the backing from the scratch pad. And then paste it in the bottom of the Attukal This will help prevent shaking and make grinding more stable and secure.

STEP 4:Add the Raw Rice to the Attukal

Pour the raw rice into the Attukal. Next, gently rotate the pestle in a circular motion. After that, add a small amount of water and keep grinding.

STEP 5:Grind Until It Becomes a Fine Paste.

Continue grinding the rice until it transforms into a fine paste which should take at least 15 to 20 minutes to reach paste consistency.

STEP 6. Wipe off the paste

Wipe off the raw rice paste using your hand from both the mortar and pestle area. The color change of the raw rice paste confirms that the dust in the pores of the Attukal has been removed. Afterward, discard the ground content.

STEP 7. Clean and dry again

Finally, clean and dry the Attukal thoroughly to remove any remaining residue and moisture.

STEP 8: Check and Repeat

If you still see dust in the Attukal, repeat Step 4 to 6 until the rice paste is clear and dust-free. This ensures the Attukal is clean and ready to use.
